FLORIDA NAUTICAL SURVEYORS VESSEL OVERSIGHT PROGRAM
FNS offers a unique program tailored to vessel owners, brokers and captains to ensure an owner’s “asset” is being properly maintained and cared for. Due to overwhelming demand, we now offer a service where the vessel is inspected by one of our highly trained and qualified surveyors and any items of concern are brought to an owners attention so that it can be rectified before it becomes a larger issue.
How Does It Work?
Initially, a full in-water survey is conducted and all items that are considered deficient or need to be serviced or improved upon are noted by our surveyors and this essentially becomes a “worklist” for the vessel. The frequency of the follow up inspections can be discussed with the owner but we find our clients prefer 3 to 6 monthly intervals.
What Are The Advantages?
We have a large group of surveyors in Florida and when we perform pre-purchase surveys we continually find items that should have been corrected or serviced prior to the survey and at the end of the inspection a buyer will ask us how much to repair or replace an item, we could say $1,000 but an owner may have had his captain or maintenance company perform the work for only $800 or less. These items can soon add up to thousands of dollars that are then negotiated to reduce the sale price of the vessel.
We also carry out pre survey surveys, meaning we inspect the vessel prior to a buyer bringing in his own surveyor and again we can save the owner / seller thousands by listing items a seller can take care of and that a buyer would try to negotiate a price reduction before closing on a vessel.
Another advantage of being part of our fleet is that you will always have access to a current marine survey that can be used for finance, insurance and will aid in selling and marketing a vessel when provided to brokers or potential buyers. We also note all maintenance and service work performed on a vessel so there is a “log” that an owner or buyer can refer too.
An owner can have peace of mind that any crew or technicians employed on the vessel are doing their job and we can assist crew in prioritizing important maintenance or repair items.
What Will It Cost and What’s Included?
If you have had the vessel recently fully surveyed by our team all you pay is for the follow up survey inspections which can vary by the size of the vessel, location and frequency of these inspection.
If you have not had a recent survey by our company, we charge an initial survey fee depending on vessel’s type and size, where we conduct a thorough inspection of vessel, test all equipment and generate a current vessel “Survey”, which will include vessels current value, along with a comprehensive “Findings List” that will identify any deficiencies that are observed. A maintenance log will also be started and kept up to date at each inspection.
We can also inspect the vessel on demand if you feel it is necessary due to ongoing repairs or maintenance items.
Please call us for pricing as every boat will be individually assessed and a program tailored to your needs.
